Why is 3d printing more interesting for your business than injection molding in China?
Insert stainless steel in your design while it’s printing, and it’s printing in a robust plastic that will hold some serious strength. That was mindblowing the first time I did it, and I also did it the wrong way, but when I understood it was possible, so many doors opened.
But forget the strength, and the technical properties, just think, and I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it can happen, you design a new product, and the company that makes the mold for you in China shares the files with other companies and you end up competing with your design sold cheaper prices in China.
Or let’s say you make the mold in Europe or the US, and copies are not going to be a problem, you do the mold, and after 6 months you realize you could have changed something simple in your design, that would have improved it by a lot, but now it’s too late and you can’t change it anymore.
So yes, having the ability to 3D print products in super strong plastics, to change designs without having to pay for the molds, and having the ability to keep your design secret, or to insert parts in the print, make 3D printing very interesting for your business.
